Reading Notes
Chapter 3, pages 102-127
High
fidelity – realism
Low
fidelity – less realism, abstraction
Images
with reduced realism are best suited for general audiences who need to quickly
comprehend the message being conveyed, such as wayfinding signage, educational
materials, explanatory graphics, and promotional materials
Superfluous
detail distracts working memory, making comprehension more difficult
Scientists
believe our stored schemas and models are similar to low fidelity graphics, so
it’s only natural that they are easy to comprehend
Silhouettes
can be a good too, but they are a challenge
Line
art is good. It’s more memorable than photographs
Reducing
the amount/quantity of elements simplifies the design and can increase its
impact.
